Android better for enterprise apps?

With the recent update to Android it got me thinking about apps and the enterprise as far as I understand it at present if you create an application it has to be published in the apps store meaning every one can take a look at it. It also means less control for businesses that want to develop back office applications specifically for in house software.

With this in mind i have always thought that Android was a the best bet. The new features in 2.2 such as enhancements to Exchange connectivity the ability for IT departments to manage the devices remotely such as remote wipe and lockscreen time out now make these devices an even more attractive option for businesses to consider.

It would be interesting to know how many business out there are currently developing applications solely for their staff to use and the platform they have chosen.

Other points to consider are the growth of Android based phones with companies like HTC launching new devices what seems like ever other month. I am sure it is only a matter of time before Android becomes the main OS for most smart phones with perhaps Apple Iphones becoming something similar to imacs a more costly yet desirable device.
